Splittra Game Demo:

This is a link to the game demo that I was working on last month with my friends over at the Dune World Collective a simple space ship based “Shoot ‘em Up” title with a twist. In order to attack and evade the oncoming swarm of enemies your ship can break a part into four smaller ships.

I did much of the ship design and modelling but the concept and programming all goes to the more tech savvy members of the collective.

Download and play the demo yourself and send me and the collective any/all feedback. We can take it!

Started making a 3D model of Dustin Nguyen’s rendition of Harley Quinn from his “Lil’ Gotham” Series to go along with the Batman one I made.

Gonna spend a bit more time shaping out the body better but her body’s not looking too bad already. Gonna see how I’m going to do the head and the hat next. Several ways I could go about them.

Done in Autodesk Maya 2013, 1Hr15Min.

Was playing around with Content aware Scaling in Photoshop while my internet was down and made this monstrosity from a simple checker board render I had lying around.

Partially completed textures of the Dustin Nguyen style Batman sharacter model I made. Really just needs a solid spec map and I think he’s good to go.

Splittra Diary: Enemy Ships

duneworldcollective:

I had a lot of initial ideas coming into this. I realize there would be enemies that would either counter the formations or force you to use a formation to line up your shots. The main problem with these designs is that I kept assuming that all the shots would be completely vertical, shooting…

Alex talks about the ships of Splittra among other things. Feel free to follow the Dune World Collective blog for updates on one of the many games we’ve been working on.

Splittra Diary: Player Ship Design

duneworldcollective:

When coming up the idea for Splittra I had to develop the look for the ship that the player controls. The main concept is that the ship had to be made up of four pods that would separate and come together depending on the formation. I think it’s easier to do concept art when you only have…

Alex did a rather nice write up of some of his thoughts and ideas when coming up with the game. Solid reads. Follow the Dune World Collective tumblr for more updates.

Halifax Scramble Event

duneworldcollective:

We recently demo’d Splittra at the Last Game Store during a very topical event known as the Halifax Scramble. An event where people gather to play shoot em ups.

We were very lucky to be allowed to setup here for the event because having new people play your game for the first time…

Couldn’t make it to the event myself but some of the team managed to go out and get folk to play the prototype and give some feedback. That’s always handy eh?

Batman model in the style of Dustin Nguyen’s “Lil’ Batman.”

Still some things I’m not completely happy with such as the chiseled look for his face and legs. His hands and the cape will probably be re-modeled completely if/when I go further but aside from those problems and a few details to be added later I’m calling the model done. At this stage I can UV it, texture it and then rig it up for animation.

Done in zBrush and Autodesk Maya. Approximate time 10 hours.

Starting a full time job (Not in the 3D industry) on Monday. Gonna be very busy from then on so I figured I’d give my last completely free weekend a fun project. This is a Dustin Nguyen Batman design from his “Lil’ Gotham” series. I’m gonna try to have the character model completed over the weekend. I don’t usually do fan art, and especially not in 3D but Nguyen, put up some design sheets on his blog and I couldn’t resist. Asked him for permission and he gave me his Blessing so we’re good to go.

These two previews are from our upcoming game “SPLITTRA” an arcade inspired “Shoot ‘em up” with a twist. We’re hoping to have a playable prototype within the week so we’ll keep you guys updated.

These are preview renders of the Dune World’s upcoming Shoot ‘em up game “Splittra” as stated above we’re hoping to have a playable prototype within the week. Ship models by me, Environment models by Evan Hiltz, Render magic by Alex Choinierre.

We are Dune World!

duneworldcollective:

We are a small collective of: programmers and 3D artists with a wide range of talents. We are: Jeff Fillingham, Evan Hiltz, Michael Easton, Alex Choinierre, and Dave Baldwin. Together we make games, such as "Dune World" (The 48 hour game from where we get our name) and we will be using this…

For the past month myself and a group of talented programmers and 3D artists have been getting together regularly and working on creating video games. I’m currently running the Dune World’s tumblr so it’d be mighty nice of you guys to follow what we have cooking. I’ll probably be re-blogging the Dune World stuff here as well however

Recut another real recently. Mostly the same content as my previous modelling real but the presentation is different.

Dune World | Global Game Jam

Participated in the 48 hour Global Game jam with some friends this weekend. We made a little game called “Dune World” I would say that the name says it all but it kind of doesn’t! You play as both a Dune buggy and a submarine in an infinite runner style game in which you have to collect fuel for the other vehicle. I mostly contributed assets to the project.

Cut together a new Modelling reel today featuring quite a bit of new material for having cut my last modelling reel in December.

Enjoy.
